A man is facing charges after he reportedly attacked another male with a bottle, slashing his neck.
Before 1 a.m. on March 10, police were tipped off to an alleged assault in the 4100 block of Golfers Approach. Whistler RCMP said the investigation revealed "that a male got upset and lunged at another male, hitting him on the head with a beer bottle," according to a release. "The bottle broke and in another movement, the bottle cut the victim male on the neck, causing a laceration which required medical treatment."
The 38-year-old suspect also allegedly punched a second male, resulting in a black eye. He was arrested and held in custody for a court date the following morning before being released on conditions, police said.
Snowmobiler injured after going over cliff near Whistler
A snowmobiler was taken to hospital last week after he went over a cliff near Whistler, police said. On the morning of March 8, Whistler RCMP was notified of an injured male who was sledding in the area of Brandywine when he fell approximately 20 metres off a cliff.
Search and rescue crews attended the scene and helped transport him to the Whistler Health Care Centre for treatment. There's been no word on the extent of his injuries.
Whistler Search and Rescue's most recent managers' report showed that snowmobiling accounted for 12 callouts between March 1 of last year and March 7, 2017, making it the No. 1 type of emergency response and the "single largest contributor to trauma" compared to other winter sports. Woman splashed, pelted with snowballs from passing car: police
Local police were unable to track down the occupants of a black SUV last week who reportedly harassed a woman near Nesters Road.
On the afternoon of March 10, a woman reported a suspicious vehicle that had "slowed down and waited for her to walk beside a large puddle," police said. "The vehicle then sped up and splashed her as well as throw (sic) snowballs at her through the open windows."
The female counted five males in the vehicle, which was not located by police following "extensive" patrols.
Drunk guy passes out in middle of Creekside store, police say
An intoxicated man chose a Creekside store to sleep off his bender this week, police said. At 3:15 a.m. on March 12, police heard word that the male had been "wandering around the store and at a point passed out on the floor" at a business in the 2100 block of Lake Placid Road.
When officers attended, the man was upright once more, standing outside of the store. He was unable to tell police where he was staying and was eventually taken to the detachment where he was held until able to care for himself.
RCMP took eight drunk drivers off the road in past week
Between March 6 and 13, Whistler RCMP removed a total of eight drunk drivers off the road.
One notable arrest involved a driver who showed signs of impairment at a traffic stop in the area of Blackcomb Way and Lorimer Road, police said. After failing a roadside screening test, the 35-year-old man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition. His car was also impounded for a month.
