Police are on the lookout for a known bike thief who skipped a recent court date. Cory Friesen, of no fixed address, was due to appear in court last week on a theft charge related to a bike stolen from Whistler in the fall, police said.
"We've got a warrant out, so if anyone sees him, we'd like to know where he is," said Const. Bernie Edmunds. "He does hang out in Squamish and often comes up to Whistler to check out the bike scene here and sometimes leaves with some bikes."
Public reminded to lock doors following spate of vehicle thefts
A series of vehicle thefts has local police reminding the public of what should probably be a no-brainer: lock your doors.
Speaking with Pique, Edmunds said there have been several recent incidents where vehicles were either left unlocked or a second set of keys was found inside.
"We just want to encourage the public to be diligent with locking their doors and not to leave their keys inside even if they believe them to be hidden, " he urged.
In one case, a truck stolen from Timber Lane last week was abandoned and recovered on March 16 in Surrey.
On March 14, Mounties received a report of an attempted vehicle theft from the 4300 block of Northlands Boulevard. When officers attended the scene, they found the vehicle's ignition had been punched and the wires cut.
On March 17, a white 2014 Toyota Tundra with a sled deck and a 2017 black and yellow Skidoo 850 snowmobile were reported stolen from the 2500 block of Whistler Road.
Two days later, another snowmobile, a red and black 2014 Polaris RMK 163 track, was reported stolen along with a Pro MX trailer, this time from the 8300 block of Rainbow Road.
