Tickets on sale for Orphans' Thanksgiving at The Point

The 5th annual All-Original Orphans' Thanksgiving dinner and party returns to The Point Artist-Run Centre on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Following turkey dinner with all the trimmings (plus a vegetarian option), entertainment will be provided by soulful rocker Gordo, Whistler's newest all-woman band Venus Envy, and high-energy country rock group Northern Ignition.

Tickets for both dinner and music are $30 for adults, $20 for kids 12 and under; show only is $15, and $10 for 12 and under.

Volunteers are also wanted in exchange for dinner and entertainment. For those interested, email thepointinfo@gmail.com.

BC Culture Days events announced

Whistler's Cultural Connector venues are playing host to BC Culture Days from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.

From the Legends of the First Nations (Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre) to the pioneering stories of Whistler's founders (Whistler Museum and Archives), artistic masterpieces (Audain Art Museum), to beautiful space for learning and creativity (Whistler Public Library), architectural feats (PassivHaus) and local art, music, and theatre (Maury Young Arts Centre) — the Cultural Connector weaves these experiences together for the BC Culture Days weekend.

Other events include a family dance, body painting, a Whistler Writers Festival workshop, and live painting throughout the weekend.

The weekend will be launched at the Audain Art Museum on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. Entry to the museum is free from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Country time at Pemberton Barn Dance

The Pemberton Barn Dance is setting up a night of dancing to some rocking country by local heroes Dakota Pearl and headliner the Chris Buck Band at the Downtown Community Barn on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for the 19-plus event, and can be purchased at AC Gas, Pemberton Valley Supermarket or the Scotiabank Pemberton.

Proceeds will got to the local Rotary and Lions Clubs.

West Coast Kitchen Party celebrates

Squamish's West Coast Kitchen Party celebrates BC Culture Days on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the new Centrepoint building on 4th Avenue.

There are workshops for fiddle, song, and step dancing at 3 p.m., a performance showcase at 6:30 p.m., and traditional music session with the Jocelyn Pettit Band and others at 8:30 p.m.

Admission is free.
