After months of ongoing work at the site, bus service will resume at Whistler's Gateway Loop later this month, announced the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW).

Due to construction delays in Phase 2 of the multimillion-dollar project, the municipality has adjusted the original schedule so that bus pickup and drop-off will return to the outer ring road of the loop on Monday , Dec. 18. Commercial buses had been picking up and dropping off passengers in Day Lot 3 while renovation work was underway.

Ten commercial bus parking spots will be available in Day Lot 4 from Dec. 15 to April 15, 2018. Alternative free parking is available along the west side of Mons Road or in the third and fourth parking lots at Spruce Grove Park.

A flag person — along with additional support from Bylaw Services — will be onsite to "ensure efficient operation of the outer loop," according to the RMOW.

Taxi operations will continue in front of the Whistler Conference Centre. Public parking is also not available at the Gateway Loop with construction still to be done.

Work is currently ongoing to open the eight bus bays that were slated as part of the $6.8-million upgrade. Other plans for the site include a 550-square-metre roof, a designated taxi loading and queue area and public parking.

A redesign of the site began in 2014, and is aimed at not only enhancing guests' arrival experience to the resort, but improving the usability and capacity of the area for bus and taxi service.
