Arts Whistler is asking artists to go incognito for an upcoming fundraiser.

The Anonymous Art Show, set to take place at the Maury Young Arts Centre from April 3 until April 17, will feature pieces that are all on a 20 centimetre by 20 cm canvas or cradled panel — with the artists' signatures concealed on the back. The theme of submissions, however, is wide open, with artists welcome to submit multiple pieces in various mediums.

While the artists will receive $25 from each piece sold, the rest of the proceeds will go towards growing the organization's Arts and Culture Legacy Fund, which is managed by the Community Foundation of Whistler. Each year, Arts Whistler uses the disbursement from the fund for its awards and bursaries program.

Those interested in purchasing the art can attend a "sneak peak" on April 3, decide what they like and return to a ticketed event (tickets are $20) on April 6 to snag a piece. The art will all be priced in tiers at $50, $100 and $150 to determine the order of purchasers.

The deadline to submit art is March 5. For more information, or to submit, visit https://artswhistler.wufoo.eu/forms/z1d09s930ng3qx8/.

Benny Benassi stops in Whistler

Legendary Italian DJ/producer Benny Benassi is making a tour stop in Whistler at Longhorn Saloon on Monday (Feb. 5) at 3 p.m. for the "ultimate patio party" and at Buffalo Bills on Wednesday (Feb. 7) at 7 p.m.

The Grammy Award-winning electronic music veteran first rose to fame in 2002 with his single "Satisfaction." Since then, he's released six studio albums, earned dozens of awards and collaborated with everyone from Madonna to John Legend.

Tickets will be available at the door, first come, first served.

AFOW host fundraiser

After donating $130,000 to various local organizations in Whistler last year, the American Friends of Whistler (AFOW) is hosting a fundraiser at the Audain Art Museum on Feb. 19.

The event will take place from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and feature a private tour of the museum, as well as a few words on "Whistler's inside scoop" with acting mayor John Grills and Whistler Blackcomb's Chief Operating Officer Pete Sonntag, the organization says, in a release.

Last year's AFOW arts and culture recipients included the Audain Art Museum for its permanent endowment of the museum's fund and the Whistler Writer's Society for its workshop series.

Tickets for the event are $30 per person in advance or $35 at the door. RSVP at info@afow.org.

Nominate a champion of arts and culture

Do you know a Whistlerite who deserves to be recognized for their contributions to the local arts scene?

If so, (and you're a member of Whistler's arts and cultural community) there's still some time to nominate them for the Whistler Excellence Award's Whistler Champion of Arts and Culture category.

The eligible candidate can be a business, organization or business leader who shows commitment to the arts and encourages partnerships between business and the arts; an individual who works or volunteers to enhance arts, culture or heritage in Whistler; or an individual artist who has contributed to the community with their commitment to any type of art.

The deadline to send in a nomination is Friday (Feb. 2) at midnight. To see the full category description, or to submit a nomination, visit whistlerchamber.com.

Meanwhile, the Whistler Excellence Awards ceremony takes place a little earlier than usual this year on April 25 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
