A 13-year-old youth was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed by a 15-year-old last week, police said.
Whistler RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at around 9 p.m. on June 1 that took place during “an escalated argument” between two local youth who knew each other previously, explained Staff Sgt. Paul Hayes. The victim was stabbed in “a non-vital area” and subsequently released from hospital after being treated, Hayes added.
Police would not pinpoint the exact location of the incident in an effort to protect the identity of the youth involved.
The accused was arrested and eventually released with a promise to appear in court next week.
“Reducing youth involvement in crime is one of the RCMP’s top priorities,” a media release read. “The RCMP believes that long-term prevention of youth crime and victimization can only be accomplished in partnership with the community. For this reason, Police work closely with social services and local partners in cases of youth violence.”
Speed and alcohol factors in single-vehicle crash in Pemberton, police say
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a single-vehicle incident that occurred after a music festival in Pemberton last weekend, police said.
Police responded to a report of the collision at about 6:30 a.m. on June 3. An investigation determined that the black BMW was travelling southbound along Highway 99 when the driver took a corner too fast and skipped a ditch, sending the car airborne before it came to a stop in the driveway of a Pemberton resident.
The driver, a 35-year-old Kelowna man, had just left the Rise and Shine Famjam Fundraiser and was on his way to Vancouver, police said. Both he and a passenger were taken to hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver was issued a 24-hour roadside driving prohibition. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Pemberton RCMP at 604-894-6634, or Sea to Sky Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
Multiple drug seizures, driving violations following Pemberton 4x4 Rally
Police nabbed a number of offenders as they exited the Pemberton 4x4 Rally this weekend, according to a release.
Checkstops convened near the Green River race grounds on June 2 and 3 led to multiple drug seizures, numerous violation tickets, and a three-day and 12-hour driving prohibition, police relayed.
“Motorists are reminded that impaired driving remains a Detachment priority and those who choose to drink or use drugs and drive can expect no leniency,” the release stated.
