Looking to spice up your Instagram feed—and enjoy some summer cocktails?
The Four Seasons Resort Whistler recently launched its "Patio Camper"—featuring a tiny trailer morphed into a Pinterest-worthy bar—that will be stationed in its outdoor courtyard for the summer. It will serve craft beer, sangria and local cider, according to a press release.
"The vintage camper has enjoyed a facelift from Whistler's own visionary Ola Smazynski of Flock Events and simply looks stunning," the release says. "The Patio Camper is the perfect place to set up shop for an afternoon or evening of cozy drinks with friends and fellow travellers."
The Patio Camper will be open daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Bring Ideas to Life through painting
A picture might be worth 1,000 words, but paintings can also communicate ideas and narratives. That will be the focus of the next Art on the Lake workshop at the Alta Lake Station House on July 21 and 22.
The session is called Bringing Ideas to Life and instructor Zoe Evamy will teach participants how to use the organization of shapes, directional lines and scale to bring an idea to life—whether the piece is abstract or representational.
Evamy, who has a degree in fine arts and illustration, has worked in London as a freelance illustrator as well as in the animation industry where she has painted background scenery for films like Anastasia and Titan AE.
"My commitment to painting, particularly from nature, has been constant throughout my career and I've had the good fortune of living in some very picturesque and paintable places," she says, in a release.
All skill levels are welcome. The cost is $275 for Arts Whistler members and $300 for non-members. To register visit artswhistler.com.
Call out for banner submissions
The banners that hang from street light posts in the village offer a pop of art in an unusual space. But did you know that the images emblazoned on them are original pieces?
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is currently seeking artists to submit proposals for the next round of banners, set to be installed this fall and winter and the fall and winter of 2019. The images can be paintings, drawings, photographs or graphic design art.
The artist chosen will have to develop a theme, create four designs to illustrate that theme and then help implement the design with a banner production company.
To submit, artists should send in a one-page resume along with five to 10 images of completed work and an idea for a banner theme. The deadline to submit is July 25 at p.m.
