In Pique's Best of Whistler 99, published Dec. 30, the following categories were recognized by readers but overlooked by us. Our apologies to these Best of Whistler winners

Clubs, Pubs and Bars

Best Place to Cut A Rug

Votes came in for no less than seven of Whistler's high-profile dance clubs and live band venues, with the top three in the old, the very old and the newer club categories. Eventual winner? Maxx Fish topped the poll; Tommy Africa's was runner up, and Garfinkel's Pub was a close third. Others to receive votes were The Boot Pub, Buffalo Bill's, Moe Joe's Pub and The Savage Beagle Bar.

Best Place to See a Live Act

The Boot Pub topped this list, pulling away from its nearest rival AlpenRock House. Buffalo Bill's and Maxx Fish also received votes for best place to see a live act.

Best Place To Shoot some Stick

Actually, you use the stick to shoot the balls, and in this case The Cinnamon Bear Bar edged out AlpenRock House for top place to feel the velvet. The Longhorn Saloon and Citta also received votes.

Best Patio

One of the newer patios in the village, The Amsterdam Cafe, received several votes for this Whistler thing to do, but it was none other than Citta - which is busy both day and night - that topped this poll by a wide margin.

Best Apres Bar

Of course there's no such thing as a bad bar after a day's skiing or riding, but with so many to choose from it takes a little extra effort to stand out. Merlin's Bar & Grill has made that effort consistently - with Guitar Doug a mainstay at the base of Blackcomb during the winter season - and our readers recognized that.

Shops and Wares

Best Grocery Store

"Where the locals shop" is the slogan used by Nesters Market, and it must be true because readers chose Nesters as Whistler's best grocery store.
