The American Friends of Whistler recently presented Whistler Community Services Society with $9,000 in grants to aid in funding two of the non-profit's fundamental programs.

This is the fifth time the AFOW has supported WCSS with funding for its social service programs since the AFOW was launched six years ago. According to Rod Rohda, President of AFOW, "We continue to be impressed with the professionalism of WCSS as an organization and their continued focus on the basic needs of Whistler residents."

The WCSS Food Bank was granted $5,000, while The WCSS Support Network of Whistler (S.N.O.W) received a $4,000 grant to help fund programs.

Lorna Van Straaten, WCSS administrator noted, "the American Friends of Whistler is one of our most consistent and generous supporters, their presence and impact in this community should be noted by all residents, and in particular clients enjoying the services of the Food Bank and the S.N.O.W. program."

From June 2008 to November the WCSS Food Bank served over 353 individuals by helping provide them with groceries and staples.

S.N.O.W. is a program designed to enhance life skills and provide support to single parent families in need in the Whistler area. S.N.O.W. participants receive life coaching, access to bulk food buying opportunities through the WCSS Food Buying Club, and can attend informational sessions with financial planners and other professionals.

The AFOW is a U.S. non-profit organization that seeks contributions from Americans who regularly visit or own property in Whistler. The funds it raises are then given exclusively to Whistler charities. Since its launch in 2003 AFOW has granted over $500,000 to local community organizations.
