Freeriders looking to learn new tricks will have a safe place to practice once again with the reopening of the Whistler-Blackcomb Air Dome Friday.

The Air Dome is an 8,400 square foot facility with jumps, quarter pipes, and a massive foam pit. It’s regularly used by Summer Gravity Camps, Richie Schley Freeride Camps, and local pro riders.

Alex Prochazka, 16, used the facility to practice his double back flip, which he landed at a slopestyle competition in Europe in June — the second rider ever to pull off the trick in a competition on 26 inch tires.

The Air Dome will be open for two sessions daily, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with each session limited to the first 30 riders. Passes are available at Whistler-Blackcomb Guest Relations for $15 per session, and a season’s pass is available for $179. There will be discounts for NSMB Bro Card holders, Whistler Mountain Bike Park passholders, and members of the Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association.

Whistler-Blackcomb will also be renting single speed Kona Scrap jump bikes to people using the Air Dome.

The Air Dome is located in Lot 8 on Blackcomb, just up from Base II. There is plenty of parking, and the Whistler and Valley Express bus service can take riders up the hill for 50 cents.
