Airport study complete, companies await results

Within the month, Tourism Whistler and Whistler-Blackcomb should have the results of a study, which will say unequivocally if an airport is possible in the Brandywine area.

Tourism Whistler President Barrett Fisher confirmed this week that an airport consultant was in Whistler last month doing analysis on the site. Though that part of the study is complete, the report will not be delivered for at least another three weeks she said.

The two organizations put up $10,000 each for the study this summer after council balked at the request. Fisher said they would be sharing the results with other partners in the resort and making the details public.

She has no early indication of what those results may be.

"We will be sharing the information once we receive it," she said.

The Brandywine site is located north of Daisy Lake, east of Highway 99.

The airport consultant was charged with finding out if RNP (required navigational procedure) technology is feasible in the area. If it isn’t, an airport will not be technically feasible at Brandywine.
