An Aldergrove man with “an extensive police history” is facing several charges after he allegedly broke a man’s nose in the village and then attempted to assault an officer while “screaming racial slurs and profanities,” police said in a release.
At about 1 a.m. on May 28, Whistler RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated man trying to fight people in front of a village nightclub. At the scene, officers located a male victim who reportedly had his nose broken by the suspect in “an unprovoked attack,” police said. As they were speaking with the victim, officers noticed the suspect near the scene and arrested him.
While walking the suspect to the detachment, authorities said the 37-year-old man attempted to elbow an officer and was yelling racial epithets at police. Then, while being searched at the cellblock, the man reportedly assaulted another officer.
A background check of the suspect revealed he was under court-ordered conditions not to consume alcohol stemming from two previous arrests. He was held in custody before being transferred to North Vancouver Provincial Court.
Police are recommending charges of assault causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, and breach of recognizance.

Police say man likely fell asleep at the wheel in rollover east of Pemberton
A man was treated for injuries last week after his vehicle rolled over east of Pemberton.
Pemberton RCMP responded to a report of the single-vehicle collision on the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Road at about 1:15 p.m. on May 25.
In a release, police said the vehicle was travelling westbound when it veered off the roadway and rolled down a 18-metre embankment. A passenger managed to crawl out of the vehicle without injury, but the driver remained trapped inside until authorities were able to extract him from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital for unspecified injuries.
Investigators believe the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel and noted that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
“The RCMP would like to remind the motoring public to get adequate rest prior to driving and to use caution, particularly on winding forest service roads,” the RCMP said in the release.
Port Coquitlam hiker spends night in backcountry after getting separated from parents
A Port Coquitlam man spent a night in the backcountry after he was separated from his parents on a hike in Garibaldi Provincial Park last week.
At about 4 p.m. on May 26, the 29-year-old contacted Whistler RCMP to advise that he had gotten lost in the area of Helm Creek. He said he had been walking for several hours and had adequate water.
When police attended, they met with the male’s parents, who said they had lost sight of their son after he had walked ahead of them. RCMP then contacted Whistler Search and Rescue, who attempted, unsuccessfully, to guide the hiker out of the area by phone. Rescue crews mobilized at first light the following morning and were able to locate the missing hiker via helicopter and return him to safety.
“Whistler RCMP would like to remind those recreating in the backcountry to have adequate navigation equipment, supplies and equipment in case you have to spend an unplanned night and to always remain with your hiking partners,” police said in a release.
Police searching for stolen e-bike valued at $8,500
Whistler police are on the lookout for an expensive electric bike that went missing from outside a village building last week.
The Cube electric mountain bike, valued at $8,500, was reportedly locked up outside a building in the 4500 block of Blackcomb Way, and went missing sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 23.
Surveillance footage showed a male suspect arriving on a mountain bike before leaving with the e-bike. Police have released images of the man in the hopes that the public will be able to identify him.
