A wildfire measuring 0.7 hectares in Alice Lake Provincial Park was quickly extinguished on Monday with a crew of eight firefighters and two helicopters battling the blaze. As of Tuesday the B.C. Forest Service was reporting that the fire was "essentially" out.
No campers were affected by the fire, and access to the beach was available on Monday and Tuesday. There will also be no impact to the annual Squamish GearJammer mountain bike race, which gets underway in the park on Saturday.
The fire hazard in the area is rated as extreme, and is expected to continue at that level through the end of the week.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
