There will be three all-candidates meetings in Whistler leading up to the Nov. 19 municipal elections, hosted by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association and the Whistler Arts Council.
The Chamber meeting will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Myrtle Philip Community Centre. The format will be different from past years. Each candidate will have three to five minutes to present their platforms, starting with the mayoral candidates, after which point the candidates will be able to walk around and meet with members of the public.
Organizers felt that with 24 candidates, it would be tough to hold an open question period that would be fair to everyone.
The WORCA all-candidates meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3 at Spring Creek Elementary School, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The format will be the same as last year, with participants sitting at tables and candidates rotating between tables according to set time limits. Non-WORCA members are encouraged to attend, but are asked to bring a donation to the Whistler Food Bank.
The Whistler Arts Council meeting – which is also sponsored by the Whistler Museum and Archives, Whistler Public Library, MY Millennium Place and the Whistler Film Festival Society – is on Monday, Nov. 14 at Millennium Place. The topic is arts and culture in Whistler. Each candidate will make a two-minute presentation, and the presentations will be followed by a moderated question period. The meeting runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. but the venue will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to service refreshments and give the public a chance to mingle with candidates.
The Whistler Forum will hold a session for the mayoralty candidates on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. at MY Millennium Place.
