Alpenglow, GayWhistler expand to summer, Tremblant

Whistler success spurs new ventures

By Andrew Mitchell

Based on the success of the WinterPride festival, which wrapped up on Sunday following an all-night party at the Telus Whistler Conference Centre, Alpenglow Productions and GayWhistler have announced plans to create new gay-themed festivals.

The Whistler group will host GayWhistler Summer Camp 2007 July 19-22, the first lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender summer camp in Whistler. The program will be busy with activities like mountain biking, river rafting, glacier skiing, hiking, and a range of non-sport activities like a Summer T-Day and Theatre in the Park.

“Whistler is just as vibrant in the summertime as it is during the winter seasons, and GayWhistler Summer Camp 2007 will reflect that,” said Sean Kearns, president of Alpenglow Productions and GayWhistler.com.

Next winter, his group will create a second WinterPride festival, at Mont Tremblant, another Intrawest resort, in March. The festival will be similar to Whistler’s WinterPride festival, with activities on and off-hill, parties, and added components focusing on topics like cuisine and health and wellness.
