Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) is mixing business with speed at the end of the month when it hosts the inaugural Lake Louise World Cup Business Forum during the annual Winterstart World Cup races.

The forum will deal with the issue of corporate governance, while supporting the ACA’s efforts to make Canada a world leader in alpine racing.

Billed as Corporate Governance – The Changing Landscape, the forum will include corporate leaders like Edco Financial Chairman Murray Edwards and CIBC President and CEO John Hunkin. The keynote speakers are Stephen Sibold, Chairman of the Alberta Securities Commission and Michael Phelps, Chairman of the Wise Persons, Committee on Securities Law Reform in Canada.

In between sessions those who attend the invitation-only forum will be able to catch the men’s downhill and super G races on Nov. 29 and 30.

It’s a win-win situation for all; business leaders will benefit from an in-depth examination of corporate governance issues, and the ACA will benefit through conference fees, and by gaining more corporate exposure in Canada.

"Resorts of the Canadian Rockies is acting as the catalyst to what we intend will be a leadership event for skiing and for business governance in Canada," said Edwards, who is also Chairman of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.

"Business leaders will leave with enhanced knowledge of leading-edge corporate governance and better understanding of what Canada requires to develop the world’s best ski racers."

There is a $2,000 fee to attend the business forum, which will be donated to the ACA and the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.

It’s an unusual route to go to raise money, but with the 2010 Winter Olympics just over six years away, Alpine Canada Alpin is pushing athlete development and sponsorship every way possible.

"The first Lake Louise World Cup Business Forum offers a unique opportunity for corporate leaders to improve governance while learning more about our goal to be a world-leading racing power by 2010," said ACA president Ken Read.
