American depth comes through in Nor Ams 

Canadians on podium; Whistler skiers in top-30

Canada’s top national development team, provincial team and FIS athletes took part in Nor Am races this week, with the women competing at Lake Louise, Alberta and the men at Beaver Creek, Colorado.

Although the American skiers dominated most of the races, the Canadians performed well, netting a few podiums and landing in the top-10.

At the women’s super-G on Dec. 9, Kristen Bybee, Lauren Van Ness and Bryna McCarty of the U.S. took the top three spots.

For Canada, Emilie Desforges of Montreal landed in fourth, just 5/100ths of a second away from a bronze medal. Sherry Lawrence of Calgary was seventh, and Brigitte Acton of Sault-Ste-Marie, Ontario was eighth.

From the Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC), Rachel Walker was 31 st , Charlotte Whitney 33 rd , Kayla Benbow 39 th , Anastasia Skryabina 42 nd , and Rachel Nixon 43 rd .

In the men’s super-G, Paul Stutz of Banff Alberta finished seventh and Sean Cochrane of Prince George was ninth. The top three were Scott Macartney, Dane Spencer and Brett Fischer of the U.S.

Manuel Osborne-Paradis was the top Whistler skier in 18 th , followed by teammate Robbie Dixon in 19 th , and Aaron Civitarese in 30 th .

In the second women’s super-G on Dec. 10, Acton landed on the podium in third behind Caitlin Ciccone and Stacey Cook of the U.S. Desforges was fourth once again, this time by 3/100ths of a second.

Lauren Lattimer of Sault-Ste-Marie was seventh and Whistler’s own Christina Risler tied for ninth place.

From the WMSC, Kayla Benbow was 25 th , Charlotte Whitney was 29 th , and Rachel Walker was 32 nd . Anastasia Skryabina did not finish.

In the second men’s super-G, Francois Bourque of New Richmond, Quebec finished fifth. Brad Spence of Calgary was 10th.

Top spot on the podium went again to Macartney, followed by Jeffrey Harrison and Fischer.

Manuel Osborne-Paradis was the top WMSC racer, finishing in 14 th place. Aaron Civitarese was 22 nd , and James Finlayson was 27 th .

Following the super-G races, the men and women took part in downhill races on Dec. 12 and 13. Results were not available before press time.
