State of the Art
Truth be told, we're not completely sure what this event has ever had to do with skiing or snowboarding but it's a rad event anyway: a seven-day art exhibit for the discerning eye, featuring contemporary talent from across the globe. Only a few of these artists are inspired by mountain culture, but all of them have been included for painting outside the lines. The opening party on April 13 will feature live painting by TJ Schneider and Olga Cutell on live models for the ART-pocalypse Collection.

Mascot Mayhem
This year marks the ninth birthday of Big Air Bear, WSSF's official mascot, which means plenty of pre-teen angst will likely be felt throughout the village during the competitions and challenges. But it's not something anyone needs to worry about — it's cartoon angst, exorcised through backflips, cartwheels and other silly mascot things. Last year featured a rousing bout of mascot limbo featuring all of Big Air Bear's friends. Will it happen again this year? Maybe it's time you find out. Bring the kids..

The Mountain Culture variety Show
It's a mountain man's jamboree! Coast Mountain Culture Magazine and The Spearhead Huts Committee are presenting the inaugural event, where local mountain enthusiasts, including Sherpas Cinemas, Les Anthony and Robin O'Neil, among others, will offer whimsical and entertaining perspectives on what it means to be a mountain man. Mitchell Scott will emcee the evening. A silent auction and draw prizes will also be included in the mix, the proceeds of which will go to supper the Spearhead Huts Committee. Tickets are $20.

Pecha Kucha
Whistler loves its Pecha Kucha. Or maybe Whistler loves to hear itself talk. Either way, Pecha Kucha has taken off in town over the past couple of years. Speakers are tasked with the challenge of presenting their thoughts at a high speed, given only 20 slides at 20 seconds each to tell a story. It's rapid fire thinking man! It's an extreme sport of the mind! Presenters include Hana Dethlefsen, Asta Kovanen, Leslie Anthony, Jf Pelchat, Dave Olson, Madeleine Grant, Chili Thom, Nicole Lauzon, Marcus Eriksson and Mike Douglas. Tickets are $10.

There are so many unscheduled functions and events happening in town this week and next week, it's nearly impossible to keep track. Monster Energy Drink is sponsoring some, so is Stoli and Kokanee and on and on. It's best to check our listings on page 79 for the assorted goings-on. Or if you're the seeking-random-adventure type, we suggest snooping around town, looking important in your finest eveningwear and sniffing out the two types of people with access to free booze: company reps from major North American cities and media "professionals," all of whom are technically here for work but...well, you know what really happens on business trips.
