Jasey-Jay Anderson didn’t stick around for the closing ceremonies of the FIS Snowboard World Championships, despite the fact he was one of its biggest stars, winning gold medals in parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom – he had another event to win.
Last weekend, days after competing in the world championships, Anderson took part in the Jeep King of the Mountain race at Mt. Snow, Vermont.
The King of the Mountain series pairs up skiers and snowboarders, who compete on a unique course for the biggest prize purse of any snow event. As a result the event attracts skiers and riders from more than a dozen nations, including former World Cup and Olympic champions in both disciplines.
Anderson won that event, while his teammate, Whistler’s Davey Barr, was fourth overall among the skiers.
On his way to the gold, Anderson edged out several members of the U.S. team, including Olympic bronze medallist Chris Klug.
The prize money is $75,000 for that event, and more than $450,000 is up for grabs on the tour. The grand finale event will take place at Lake Tahoe, Feb. 4-5.
