For the second year in a row, the Whistler RCMP and Fire Department are hosting a Canada Day (July 1) charity garage sale.

Last year, the garage sale was a huge success, raising over $10,000 for the Maurice Young Millennium Place. This year all proceeds will go towards the J.J. Whistler Bear Society. The society organizes and funds bear awareness programs for Whistler residents and businesses, and supplies the authorities with non-lethal bear management kits.

The goods for sale come from public donations, the RCMP’s lost or stolen items locker, and Whistler-Blackcomb’s lost and found.

The day begins with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., and the sale begins at 9 a.m.. There will also be a barbecue lunch at noon.

Information booths will be set up, and visitors can meet Safety Bear, or have their photo taken with a Mountie in full red serge. You can also enter a raffle, with prizes that include a bear viewing trip and a scenic flight over Whistler.

For more information, or to make a donation, contact the J.J. Whistler Bear Society at 905-4209.
