The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is hosting its annual budget community meeting Monday, Feb. 4. Residents are invited to the interactive meeting to ask questions and discuss proposed initiatives with staff and council. Presentations by staff will be broadcast live at www.facebook.com/rmowhistler

"One of the most crucial parts of our annual budget process is receiving feedback and input from community members throughout the year," said Mayor Jack Crompton. "We plan our budget year-round and incorporate a number of opportunities for the community to provide their feedback, from open houses to online and phone surveys. Because these are your tax dollars and this your community, we rely on these feedback opportunities to build budgets that reflect the current and future needs in Whistler."

Whistler's budget documents will be available online Jan. 31 at www.whistler.ca/budget

The community meeting will be held at Maury Young Arts Centre from 4 to 7 p.m. with presentations to start at 5 p.m.

Following the 2019 budget community meeting, more work will be done on the plan with budget guideline presented at March and April regular council meetings by staff. The Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw is tentatively scheduled for first three readings by Council on March 26 and adoption on April 9, and the Tax Rate Bylaws are tentatively scheduled for first three readings by Council on April 9.

The RMOW annual budget helps to inform the annual Corporate Plan, both of which are guided by the overall community vision and Official Community Plan (OCP).

"Council held a retreat late last year to help articulate priorities going into the annual planning process," added Crompton. "A major consideration has been the extensive feedback from the community during the official community plan and vision engagement process from last year."
