The Community Foundation of Whistler is looking for applicants for this year's Kathy Barnett Leadership Grant Program.

The Community Foundation of Whistler is looking for applicants for this year's Kathy Barnett Leadership Grant Program.

The registered charity issued a call last week for applications for the grant, which supports women living in the Sea to Sky Corridor who are looking to improve their skills for the betterment of the community.

The grant was created in the memory of Kathy Barnett, co-founder and former publisher of Pique Newsmagazine , who was known for her spirit of entrepreneurship and her vision for Whistler . Barnett passed away in 2008.

Last year's recipient was Kari Gaudet, director of childcare services with the Whistler Children's Centre. She used the money to participate in two courses on leadership and grant proposal writing.

Two leadership grants worth $1,000 each are being issued this year to help two women support the Whistler area through professional development, such as a program, a course or a conference. Candidates must be employed or volunteer with a registered charitable organization to be considered.

The application deadline is June 18.
