Art-rock wackos Run Chico Run back at the Boot

The Punk Night is welcoming back bizarro art-rockers Run Chico Run this Sunday night.

The keyboard-driven two-man band from Victoria re-released their album Shashbo on Boompa Records last September.

"Perfect stuff," exclaimed reviewer Roman Sokal in national music mag Exclaim. "Driving, saturated, grainy keyboards like an angry yet geekier Yes meets debut era Elvis Costello with an affinity for the Beatles. There’s enough awkward punk style breaks in the beats and minor explosions each time the keys make a change."

A valiant attempt at describing the manic eclectic duo’s sound. Their live show takes things a step further.

The band will be joined by touring mates The Mark Inside. Make a point of logging onto www.runchicorun.com to see the intro monkeys playing the drums and their amazing archive of the coolest concert posters ever sketched on a binder.

Whistler burning

The GLC is hosting a party on Saturday night inspired by the Burning Man counter-culture extravaganza held annually every September in the Nevada desert.

Burning Down the House is the brainchild of a collective of local creative minds including the GLC’s regular Saturday night DJ Chili Thom (a.k.a. Mr. Fister), his partner KLC Nash, Ace Mac-Kay Smith, firedancer Lexi Moon, and the GLC’s Gil Harput. The event will feature slide shows and films by local burners Allan Crawford, Xandra Grayson, Feet Banks and Chili Thom, performance art, fire dancers and tunes by DJ duo Super Secret, as well as participatory installations inspired by the event.

Partygoers are encouraged to dress in the anything-goes, freak-friendly Burning Man way.

The event draws thousands of people to the Black Rock desert every September and has many Whistler devotees. Burning Man was the subject of a photo show on the walls of the community gallery space upstairs at MY Millennium Place last August which drew a packed house for its opening reception.

Tickets for Burning Down the House are $10.
