ARTrageous call for entries

Artists and artisans are needed to participate in the Whistler Arts Council’s upcoming ARTrageous celebration Thursday, Nov. 9 at Dusty’s as part of the Cornucopia food and wine festival.

“It’s a party celebrating Whistler’s art and culture,” said event promoter Christian Kessner. “Really, it is like we are celebrating the collision of arts and the art of partying.”

The party showcases regional artists, artisans, musicians and performers throughout the evening.

Artists work in front of an audience, a collective public art piece is created, live music stokes the dance floor, body painting keeps things lively and theatrics thread in and out of the non-stop evening.

Applicants must be willing to perform as an artist-at-work during the event and must display sculptural, not functional art. For the first time, ARTrageous will be a juried event. Judges will be looking for high-quality craftsmanship.

“Cornucopia is an international event, so artists will get a lot of exposure from it,” Kessner said.

The application deadline is Tuesday, Oct 17 at 4 p.m. For application forms, contact the Whistler Arts Council at 604-938-9221.

ARTrageous tickets are $15 and available at the Whistler Arts Council, while $30 tickets (which include two glasses of wine) are available through www.whistler.com .
