Tuning out for a break

The annual all-female musician showcase called Tuned Women, originally slated for February at MY Millennium Place, is postponed until next year.

Organizers Gillie Easdon and Tessa Amy are no longer living in Whistler and the size of last year’s full-on rock concert has left the two music troubadours looking for a break.

"Tuned Women will be taking a break for a year," said Amy from her Vancouver home. "It’s amazing how many people stopped me (while I was in Whistler last week) asking when auditions were going to be. We just need a break and are taking the time to focus on our music."

Amy said she was unsure whether she and Easdon would host the show next year. Another organizer for the show will be looked at if needed. The show will go on, just not until next year.

Photographer Showdown call

It’s last call for the ninth annual Pro Photographer Showdown with the Feb. 15 deadline for submissions fast approaching.

The $10,000-prize-money competition, presented by the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, showcases an evening of action/lifestyle photography at the festival with five photographers battling it out.

Photographers must submit a three-minute DVD presentation of their images set to music. Submissions will be reviewed by industry professionals and past showdown winners to determine the final five.

Finalists will be flown to the gala April 19 where a Best of Show will be elected and awarded $10,000.

For submission forms, visit www.whistler2006.com .
