Altitude revelers get ready
Single event tickets are now on sale for Whistler’s biggest gay and lesbian ski week, the 14 th annual Altitude Feb. 4 to 13.
It’s all about mingling with sinful soirees such as the Shagadelic Martini Party Feb. 7 at Tommy’s or learning how to line dance and hog tie at a glam version of a cowboy/cowgirl dance Feb. 6 at Bill’s. There are plenty of après events to meet new friends and daytime mountain craziness such as their infamous scavenger hunts to keep the party going 24 hours a day.
One of the event highlights, for homo and hetero alike, is the comedy night and charity auction Feb. 9 at the Westin Resort. All proceeds benefit the Western Canadian Pediatric Aids Society and Camp Moomba – a camp for children whose lives were touched by AIDs.

Moulding imagination
Capture your imagination or a memory of your pregnancy at the mask making and/or belly-moulding workshop Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Squamish Public Library.
Using plaster of paris, art adventurers can create fitted masks or pregnant women can take a cast of their belly Friday then return to the dried forms on the Saturday to decorate their shapes.

Artist call for school mural
Spring Creek Community School is hosting an artist in residence program, funding an artist to design, lead and create a school mural in partnership with students.
Spring Creek is currently accepting submissions for the artist position whose credentials must include an art repertoire and experience in working with children.
Artists must submit a one-page resume, six images of completed work and a write up on two potential themes for the mural.
Spring Creek Parent Advisory Committee members will jury the submissions. A total of $3,000 will be awarded to the selected – the project money includes cost for materials, installation and the artist’s fee.
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 17. The project will begin after spring break.

YouthFest auditions
If you are a young talent in the Sea to Sky Corridor, the Squamish Youth Theatre wants to feature your talent in YouthFest March 24 and 25 at Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish.
Last year, the company featured six short plays involving five directors and more than 50 actors for the two-night show. Two plays were locally written. Dance and singing segued from one show to the next.
This weekend is your last opportunity to audition with an open call Sunday, Jan. 22 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Sea to Sky Hotel.
Volunteer crew members are also needed.

Bookish stretch
Balance mind and body with a bookish yoga retreat Jan. 20 to 22.
Author and yogi Arthur Jeon will facilitate a yoga workshop, dharma talk, introduce his two books and host a lunch.
The Hollywood screenwriter is an alumnus of the Harvard film school. He now teaches hatha yoga and leads dharma talks at the Santa Monica and Beverly Hills Yoga Centre. He has written two books: Sex, Love and Dharma as well as City Dharma.
