Mosey on down to Pemberton’s barn dance
The Pemberton Barn Dance returns with live music from Appaloosa and Hay Fever Saturday, July 22 at The Roothouse on Pemberton Meadows Road.
The Barn Dance is a signature event for Pemberton, with cowpokes coming out from all along the Sea to Sky corridor to two-step at this authentic country jamboree on a farm.
Haul out your country duds for this rockin’, sell-out affair wielding a sea of cowboy hats as far as the eye can see.
A shuttle service runs from Whistler and Pemberton. Must be 19 or older to attend.
Advanced $25 tickets are available until July 15. Tickets thereafter are $30.
Tickets are available at The Question, located above the TD Bank in Whistler, as well as at Paperworks, Pemberton Trading Company, Esso, Pemberton Valley Supermarket and Royal Canadian Legion in Pemberton.
Films under the stars
Grab a blanket, picnic basket and friends and make your way over to Lost Lake Park where LUNA (Late Unique Nighttime Alternatives) hosts the infamous LUNAFlick outdoor movie series set under the stars every Thursday.
The season kicks off with It’ s All Gone Pete Tong . The film follows the tale of how Ibiza star DJ Frankie Wilde grapples with going deaf. His life spirals out of control until an epiphany puts him on course, and he discovers he can continue his craft through the physical vibrations of his record beats.

won numerous awards at the Toronto International Film Festival, U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and Gen Art Film Festival.Show up lakeside around 9 p.m. to enjoy local turntablist sets, with the film beginning at dusk.
Tickets are $3 for LUNA members (ages 17-29) and $5 for non-members.
The film Intermission screens the following Thursday, July 13. The Irish comedy, starring Cillian Murphy and Colin Farrell, shares the stories of interweaving lives and loves of small-town delinquents, shady cops, pretty good girls and very (very) bad boys.

>Artist call to fight hunger
Artists may not always have a lot of money to give, but their talents are worth their weight in gold.
Jana Marie Dupuis and Kostas Lymbertos of Bands Against Hunger are giving artists the opportunity to use their creative forces for the greater good with a fundraising event scheduled for December 2006.
"This is what Bands Against Hunger is all about: people sharing their gift of music to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian causes," Dupuis said.
Bands Against Hunger recently raised $1,400 at the first Summer Splash Reggae Festival last Sunday at Buffalo Bill’s. Proceeds benefited The Whistler Food Bank, The Psoriasis Society of Canada and struggles in Africa.
Specific details about the December event are not yet available. However, Dupuis invites artists, dancers and musicians to participate.
