The Whistler Arts Council and the MY Millennium Place Society may merge into a single, all-encompassing group.
That was the recommendation by a consultant who reviewed the two organizations and MY Millennium Place.
The specialist with Profession Environmental Recreation
Consultants (PERC) also suggested that the mandate of MY Place should be
narrowed to “the cultural centre of the community.” And he suggested that the
Youth Centre and Teddy Bear Day Care should be moved elsewhere.
Council received the report on Tuesday evening and raised
several concerns with the six recommendations.
“I saw it as something we didn’t necessarily have to accept,”
said Councillor Tom Thomson, who is council representative to the Whistler Arts
Council and Millennium Place Society, to the other five councillors and the
mayor.
“It was his (the consultant’s) vision of what he saw as the
best use for the facility we had and the organizations we have.”
The lawmakers will discuss the future of Whistler’s arts scene in more detail after a steering committee, made up of representatives from WAC, MYMPS and the RMOW, examines the report.
