Atomic ski and snowboard cross events return

It’s Atomic time again.

One of the valley’s longest running cross series returns on Feb. 20 with events for snowboarders and skiers – that’s a Thursday, so you may have to book time off work.

The format is four competitors per heat, with the top rider or skier advancing to the next round. Everyone else gets another opportunity to advance in a last chance qualifying heat.

Helmets are mandatory, and all competitors have to be 19 or older.

Because this is a popular event, pre-registration is recommended. You can register in person at any Whistler-Blackcomb ski school sales location, or by calling 1-800-766-0449. You can also register on race day at the Rendezvous Lodge until 9:45 a.m.

There will be prizes for the top three in each competitive category, plus draw prizes for all competitors at the after part at the Crab Shack, starting at 4 p.m.
