With the completion of the World Ski Championships for cross-country in Norway last week, the International Skiing Federation (FIS) tallied up the results. Austria once again finished on top, repeating their 2009 win in the overall medal count.
The world championships were in alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. A total of 165 medals were handed out in 55 events, with Austria picking up 24 medals in total - 13 gold, six silver and five bronze.
Norway, which held the title in 2007, was second with 22 medals (10 gold, six silver and six bronze), and Canada placed third - largely because of a dominating performance in freestyle, with mogul skiers winning eight out of 12 medals, three ski cross medals, three medals in halfpipe, one medal in slopestyle and an unexpected win in aerials by Warren Shouldice. That's a total of 16 medals, including eight championship titles.
In alpine, Canada earned one medal with Erik Guay's win in downhill, in cross-country we won a medal for Alex Harvey and Devon Kershaw's win in the classic relay. Snowboarding added just one medal, with Dominique Maltais placing second in snowboardcross.
Canada total medal count was 20, followed distantly by France with nine.
