Below Treeline : Low Travel Advisory : There are another 14 cm of new snow above 1,000 metres. This layer of new snow has been loaded over last week's melt-freeze crust and into lee start zones. This means that you can expect to find isolated slabs that could be reactive to skier triggering while solar exposures are due for another wet avalanche cycle. The new snow instability should settle rapidly with the forecast weather, while solar-triggered avalanches are probable as temperatures rise.
Avalanche Activity : Ski cutting on Tuesday produced small size 1 to 2 slabs that were running easily in the alpine. Cornices and large "mushrooms" on cliff features continue to be a threat to the terrain below.
Snowpack : We have a fresh load of storm snow sitting over variable melt-freeze surfaces on all aspects and elevations. Slabs up to 30 cm have developed over a tight melt-freeze affected upper snowpack. Rapid settlement due to mild temperatures and solar warming should improve the bond between the new snow and the underlying crust.
Weather : Clear or high overcast conditions are forecast through Thursday. This will give way to a weak Pacific frontal system on Friday. We are expecting cloud and light flurries on Friday before another ridge of high pressure builds over our area through the weekend.
