Time limits set on B&B, pension rezoning Even though Whistler is approaching buildout and the supply of single family homes is beginning to tighten up, some people have found a way to drive up property prices even higher: obtain zoning for a bed and breakfast or pension. Council moved this week to address the issue by imposing a minimum start up time on bed and breakfast and pension operations. Councillor Dave Kirk noted there has been one or two cases where people have had their single family homes rezoned for a bed and breakfast or pension but haven't taken advantage of the new zoning. Not only does the property value increase with the rezoning, but under municipal laws no other bed and breakfast or pension is allowed with 150 metres. That may deny someone who wants to operate a bed and breakfast the opportunity to do so. The Advisory Planning Commission has looked at the problem and will be making recommendations to council in the next six weeks. An application by Myrna and Todd Bush for rezoning to allow a bed and breakfast at 8597 Drifter Way was given first and second readings by council Tuesday. A public hearing will be held before final adoption is considered, but council will require that the bed and breakfast begin operation within a yet-to-be-determined time period, if the rezoning is adopted.
