Whistler drivers are being asked to be more aware of school
buses, as RCMP have received complaints that many motorists aren’t stopping for
the buses during their morning commute.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Whistler RCMP point out
that children are put at risk every time drivers decide to break this law.
Police have spoken with a number of drivers about this problem,
and say many simply don’t realize that when a school bus has a “STOP” light
flashing, they have to stop completely behind the bus.
Buses will start flashing an amber light, indicating that
drivers should prepare to stop, before they turn on the red STOP light.
Anyone who breaks this law can expect a fine of $167.
