Conservation officers have had to destroy nine bears since July, bringing the total number put down this year to 15. A page out of the Whistler bear destruction files: o Female yearling destroyed at Lost Lake. Did not respond to aversive conditioning. Too young to relocate. o Bear frequenting Garfinkel’s underground parking lot dumpster destroyed. RCMP spoke to nightclub. o Alta Vista bear relocated to Roe Creek. Returned within 24 days and had to be destroyed. o Bear ripping into container at Chateau. Big problem. Trapped and destroyed. o Bear chasing people at Brew Pub. Destroyed. o Easy Street bear. Broken hind leg. Put down. o Motor vehicle accident at Whistler Way. Bear run over. Had to be put down. o Meadow Park. Bear relocated early September. o Injured bear at Palmer Drive near Whistler Golf Course. Had to be put down. o Lake Placid Lodge. Bear in dumpster. Been a nuisance for several weeks. Destroyed.
