A Motown legend will join piano man Cameron Chu in the Bearfoot Bistro this holiday season.

Along with his band The Vancouvers, Bobby Taylor was a signed recording artist with the groundbreaking Detroit record label in its 1960s heyday, but he is most famous for discovering the Jackson 5, who he introduced to Motown head Berry Gordy in 1968.

Lil' Michael and his bro's aside, Taylor has also sung with an impressive list of legends that includes Billie Holiday and Fats Waller.

Though raised in Washington D.C., touring eventually landed Taylor in the Vancouver area, where he put together a band, aptly titled The Vancouvers. The band included a pre-Cheech Tommy Chong on backup vocals and a then unknown young guitarist named Jimi Hendrix who was fired for playing too loud and letting his solos run too long.

With the crazy days of Motown gone but definitely not forgotten, Taylor joins Chu at the piano in the Bearfoot for a solo set of old school R&B and soul tunes and maybe, just maybe, a story or two. Catch the true original nightly until Jan. 4. Call 604-932-3433 for information.
