Beat Notes

Small Town Alberta comes to Ski Town B.C.

Small Town DJs, Calgary’s favourite turntable partners, are the special of the week at Tommy Africa’s Soul Kitchen this Sunday night.

The duo of Pete Emes and Mike Grimes are the force behind long-running club night Hai Karate, a pillar of the Calgary club scene.

The boys energetically mix everything from hip-hop to drum ’n’ bass, house, breaks, and the odd classic rock anthem side by side on a four turntable set up, and their buoyant, danceable sound has been compared to that of U.K. DJ/producer Fatboy Slim.

Catch the Smalltown DJs, prairie boy originals in our ski town this Sunday night. Doors at 9:30 p.m.

Breaks night brings in a Hooligan

Jungle ’n’ Breaks night at Garfinkel’s this Tuesday features one half of the U.K. duo Atomic Hooligan, DJ/Producer Terry Ryan.

While British soccer hooligans are renowned the world over for their ability to bash heads, the drum ’n’ bass hooligans are renowned the world over for their tight mixes for artists such as Roni Size, Tayo and Underworld.

Catch Ryan throwing down some deep, dirty U.K. beats at Jungle ’n’ Breaks night this Tuesday.
