Beatty third in B.C. Cup downhill 

P>In the fifth B.C. Cup downhill of the season, on July 1 at Silverstar Mountain, Whistler’s Jeff Beatty finished third in the Junior Expert category, less than two-tenths of a second back of the silver medal winner. It was Beatty’s second podium of the season, including his gold medal at Bear Mountain in May.

Beatty races for the Single Track Off Road Mountain Bike Club of Whistler, Specialized, and Evolution.

Whistler’s Claire Buchar, another Evolution rider, also finished fifth in her first race in the pro elite women’s category.

The B.C. Cup series will take a break this weekend for the Triple World Cup at Grouse Mountain, and World Cup and Canada Cup races in Fernie, Canmore and Vernon. The next provincial cross country, downhill and dual slalom races will take place on Aug. 18 and 19 in Fernie. The B.C. Cup Championships will be held the following weekend in Rossland.
