Beer-inspired Sweaty Cheddar

Sweaty dance floor, cheesy fun, local band of mixed pros jams for New Year’s Eve

Who: Sweaty Cheddar

Where: Garibaldi Lift Company

When: Saturday, Dec. 31

Tickets: $50/$60

Sweaty Cheddar is always a mixed plate of musicians and this New Year’s Eve at the Garibaldi Lift Company is no exception.

Sweaty Cheddar gives friends the chance to share a stage together and produce music outside of their normal nine-to-fiver jobs. Half the lineup is musicians from She Stole My Beer, while the other half is a mix of professional musicians.

Percussion stormer Geoff Hicks recently returned from touring with Colin James in Europe; Brad Ferguson is heading up the Sea to Sky from his regular bass gigs around Vancouver; harmonica-wailer Bruce Knauer is stepping up his folk tunes from Smoke and the Drones with Cam Salay; guitarist Chad Chillibeck takes a break from Vancouver’s filmmaking industry; keyboard stylist Jordan White steps out from Quattro’s kitchen; and drummer Franco Diligenti takes a different beat from his Ski Patrol routine.

"The base of the band is always changing," Diligenti said, adding that Darren Paris won’t be joining the show. He is currently touring in Europe.

"Our lineup is based on availability. It always keeps things fresh."

The New Year’s Eve show will also be a warm up for Diligenti, Chillibeck and White who remorph into She Stole My Beer for the annual January concert at the GLC celebrating Colin Pine and Jeff Morgan’s birthdays.

Beer was the inspiration behind Sweaty Cheddar.

She Stole My Beer members were looking for an excuse to expand their playing fixes with a more instrumental jam band format and Grateful Dead cover tunes. Sweaty Cheddar was born and as the name implies, the band works up as much of a sweat as the dancers. And the cheese heads never take their music too seriously, only the fun.

"We are certainly a mixed bag of music," said Deligenti. "We play some originals, a wide-variety of covers and Grateful Dead favourites."

While the lineup is unpredictable, the crowd of She Stole My Beer fans who flock to both Sweaty Cheddar and Beer shows is always right on the mark.

The first 100 tickets for the New Year’s Eve bash are $50 and the second 100 are $60. Tickets available in advance at the GLC.
