Bennett jumps into coaching

Brian Bennett, a member of the B.C. Ski Team for two years and an often decorated alumnus of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, has announced that he is getting back into skiing this winter.

Although he is just 23, won the Pontiac GMC Cup National Championship title as recently as 2002, and landed two top-10 finishes in the nationals last year, Bennett is going to take a chance on the other side of the clipboard as the new North Zone Development Coach.

Originally from Quesnel in the North Zone, Bennett moved to Whistler to train with the WMSC many years ago. Now he is returning home to help develop the next generation of ski racers.

"I look forward to this new challenge," said Bennett. "There is no doubt in my mind that the athletes from the north can compete with the best in B.C. I plan to continue with our improvement and help our clubs in any way possible to bring us back to the elite level."

Bennett will work with the North Zone FIS Team, as well as the K1 and K2 teams - basically all skiers aged 11 to 16.
