To celebrate twenty years of teaching youth how to catch big air, Momentum Ski Camps will hold its annual Splashdown showcase at the Whistler water ramp on July 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

"It's a spectacular water ramp event featuring the very top pros in the world, celebrities in the world of skiing and jumping along with our campers so they get the chance, which is lovely for the young kids, to compete alongside their heroes off the water ramp," said Julia Smart of Momentum Ski Camp. "There are different categories and we have fun events and crazy jumps and a panel of celebrity judges as well."

Though she couldn't confirm all the judges, Smart said it's likely that the likes of Sarah Burke, Mike Douglas and Alex Bilodeau will be on hand for the job.

The Whistler water ramps have long been used to train traditional and new school freestyle aerial athletes. The plastic covered ramps, which imitate the slippery tension of snow when wet, vault athletes into a special pool infused with air currents that helps break surface tension on the landing.

Last year, around 500 people showed up to watch the Splashdown antics.

"It's just basically a fun event that highlights some of the amazing acrobatic freestyle aerial skills of the new school kids on the circuit and the up-and-comers as they aspire to follow in their heroes footsteps," said Smart. "Obviously it's a great training tool that's used by the pros and we use it a lot during our summer camps, it's a really important part of our programs so the kids can learn safely how to get air."

Momentum will be offering a special Girl's Week alongside its regular camp sessions from July 1 - 9, where they will bring in some of the top female skiers in the world to mentor the girls, with added activities with a female focus.
