September is now unofficially mountain bike month in Whistler with events on the calendar on every single weekend.

The 10 th annual West Side Wheel-Up takes place on Sept. 7. The Samurai of Singeltrack takes place the following Saturday. The Saturday after that, it’s the annual Cheakamus Challenge Fall Classic Mountain Bike Race.

Now there is truly no rest on the weekends with the addition of the Whistler Mountain Bike Festival on Sept. 28 and 29.

The festival will feature three main events; a six-hour enduro event on the Saturday that can be raced solo or as part of a team; a hucking competition on Saturday night; and a freeride competition in the Mountain Bike Park on Sunday. A fat tire criterium around the village may also be included.

The two-day event is being put on by Richard Juryn of Shore Events, and promoted to cyclists locally and regionally.

"We’re finding that events in general add to the excitement that goes with mountain biking in Whistler," said Rob McSkimming, managing director of sports programming for Whistler-Blackcomb. "Not just for the bike park either, but to the whole scene in Whistler, and we’re becoming known for our world class mountain biking.

"It’s also good to have events at that time of year when things are winding down in Whistler," he said.

Online registration will be available soon on the Web site at www.shoreevents.com .
