The RCMP answered four reports of stolen bikes this past week, including a bike that was stolen in early August. That comes after a week where a downhill bike with an estimated value of $7,000 was stolen.
The first two bikes were stolen between 8 p.m. on Sept. 21 and 6 a.m. on Sept. 22 from Nordic Place. One bike was a grey Marin Bobcat and the other was a light green Kona. The bikes were taken from outside the residence, and were not locked up.
The RCMP received a report of a red Kona Scrap, which was taken on the same night from the 2000 block on Nordic. The bike was also outside a home, but was secured by a cable lock that was cut.
The RCMP also received a report of a gold Kona Bass slopestyle bike that was taken from the underground bike storage at the Pan Pacific Mountainside Lodge on Aug. 8. It was a kid's frame, and valued at $2,100.
On Sept. 19 a thief entered through a patio door at The Lagoons on Northlands Boulevard., stealing a white Intense downhill mountain bike valued at $7,000.
Overall, the number of bike thefts in the first nine months of 2009 is up slightly, with 90 reports of bike thefts in the $5,000 and under range. There were 76 thefts in that range reported from Jan. 1 to Sept. 1 in 2008.
The RCMP remind people to lock their bikes securely, even if they are kept indoors.
That also goes for dirt bikes. On Sept. 26 a thief or thieves likely pried open a secure locker in a townhouse parking lot on Northlands Boulevard and cut the chain securing a 2008 KTM 450cc dirt bike. The incident was reported at 10:40 p.m.
Man arrested in hit and run
The Whistler RCMP are investigating a 25-year-old male Whistler resident after another Whistler resident was struck by a vehicle at 1 a.m. on Sept. 26. According to reports the incident took place on Alpine Way, west of Alpine Drive. The man was treated for minor injuries and released. Police arrested a suspect later in the day. Charges are currently being weighed by the Crown.
RCMP seek assistance for assault
The RCMP responded to a report of two males in a fight with four other males at 2:14 a.m. on Sept. 27 on Village Gate Boulevard. The RCMP drove to the site and spoke to the two males when they got a report of another fight likely involving the same four men. The RCMP responded immediately, but there was nobody on scene when they arrived.
The first two men did not say they wanted to press changes in the incident when they second call arrived, and did not require medical attention.

Two arrested for impaired driving
The RCMP arrested two people for drinking and driving last week, and both are being charged with impaired driving and for driving over the 0.08 legal limit.
The first case was on Friday, Sept. 25 at 11:30 p.m. A 33-year-old Whistler male went through a red light at Northlands and Village Gate and was pulled over. According to the breathalyzer his blood alcohol content was 0.16, or twice the legal limit.
At 1 a.m. the same night a 43-year-old female from Mission was stopped by a road check at Highway 99 and Hillcrest, and showed signs of impairment. Her BAC was 0.11.
Sergeant Wright moving on
After more than four years in Whistler RCMP Sergeant Steve Wright has been promoted to detachment commander for Sooke, outside of Victoria.
Wright is still with the Whistler detachment, and as of last week there was no date set for his departure. Similarly, no replacement has been announced and it's unknown whether an officer will be hired from outside the community or promoted from within the detachment.
Sgt. Wright will return to Whistler for the 2010 Olympic Games. He played a role in developing an operational plan for the resort during the Olympics.
RCMP investigate two break-ins
The RCMP are investigating two break and enters in the Whistler area over the past week.
At 12:33 a.m. on Friday morning a thief attempted to break into the B.C. Liquor Store at Marketplace by throwing a rock through the window. That immediately set off the alarm, and prompted a flurry of calls to the RCMP from people living and staying in the area. The thief or thieves fled empty handed.
Between 10 p.m. on Sept. 25 and 8 a.m. the next day a thief entered a locked common room at the Cascade Lodge and stole tools from an unlocked cupboard. All permanent residents and staff have access to the room.
No value for the tools was given.
