Black bear behaviour 101

In an effort to reduce the number of bear/human conflicts in the resort, Whistler residents and guests are getting a lesson on bear behaviour.

Marc Zurbuchen, Whistler’s bear aware coordinator, will led a public awareness campaign, teaching people about bear attractants and how human behaviour can help save bears.

He is looking for volunteers to help with awareness-raising activities such as door-to-door campaigning, putting up posters, or attending display booths.

The program is funded by the provincial Ministry of Environment and is one of 25 similar programs going on across B.C. with a mission to reduce conflicts between human and bears through education, innovation and cooperation.

To join the team as a volunteer or to book a presentation to learn more about the program, call Marc Zurbuchen at 604-935-8288.

To report all human/bear conflicts call 604-905-BEAR (2327).
