A 27-year-old snowboarder died May 29 from injuries sustained snowboarding on Whistler Mountain. While snowboarding with two friends, Devin Sherwin suffered fatal head and chest injuries after falling in a rock outcrop in an area off of Harmony Ridge. Sherwin, from Langley, B.C., was an experienced snowboarder and long-time season’s pass holder. According to Whistler RCMP, at approximately 2 p.m. Sherwin entered into an area of rocks to the west of a groomed intermediate trail and fell in the rocky outcrop, sustaining head and chest injuries. According to Whistler-Blackcomb, ski patrol and an on-mountain physician attended immediately after the accident to provide emergency medical aid. RCMP report Sherwin was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Whistler Medical Clinic after being airlifted by helicopter. A joint investigation is being conducted by the B.C. Coroner’s Office, the Whistler RCMP and Whistler-Blackcomb mountain personnel.
