Whistler's Business Person of the Year Award was given out to two worthy recipients at the annual Whistler Spirit Employers' Luncheon this week.

This year the award recognized Bob and Sue Adams, owners of The Grocery Store.

"We were extremely surprised and we're feeling very proud and honoured," said Sue Adams.

The couple moved to Whistler in 1988 when they decided to buy The Grocery Store.

"It was a lifestyle decision," said Adams.

It was also a decision that they didn't regret.

For the past 12 years in Whistler, the couple has been very active in the business community. In addition to the Grocery Store, they also own Market Catering in Function Junction and at one point they owned the Upper Village Market.

The Adams' are no strangers to awards though. In 1994 they were nationally recognized as the Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, and this year they were presented with a platinum award of merit for 10 consecutive years in the business.

The Business Person of the Year Award was presented to the couple by last year’s winner, Dave Kirk, on Wednesday at the luncheon hosted by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce.

"It's a neat thing to be recognized by your peers like that," said Adams.
