The body of Peter Thompson, 19, of Canmore, Alberta, has been found. Thompson went missing on Sept. 28 when he kayaked over a small waterfall on the Cheakamus River. Attempts to find him immediately after his disappearance failed and searchers declared Thompson missing and presumed drowned.

Whistler RCMP learned that Thompson's body had been located on Oct. 13. S/Sgt. Steve LeClair reported he was found by friends.

"(His) friends attended the area and observed the stern of the missing male's kayak sticking out of the water," LeClair said.

"They were able to dislodge the kayak, which still contained the body of the male. The body was secured downstream and removed from the area with the assistance of Whistler Search and Rescue."

A celebration of Thompson's life was held near Calgary on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Pemberton man's armed robbery arrest

A 28-year-old Pemberton man is facing armed robbery charges after he was arrested in connection with a robbery in Maple Ridge on July 12.

According to reports, a male walked into the Westminster Savings Credit Union on the 22400 block of Lougheed Highway and passed a note to the teller asking for cash. He was handed a sum of money and left. He was described as Caucasian, 25 to 35 years old, five-foot-six to five-foot-eight and about 220 pounds with a stocky build.

A suspect was arrested by Ridge Meadows RCMP on Oct. 5, and released pending a court appearance on Nov. 1. He cannot be named until after his first court appearance.

Cpl. Alanna Dunlop of the Ridge Meadows RCMP, said, "This was a good investigation that has resulted in a criminal charge being laid. Our Street Enforcement unit did some excellent follow-up after the initial investigation by both our uniformed General Duty and the RCMP's Integrated Forensic Identification Section."

Man won't press assault charges

Just after 2 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 12, the RCMP received a report of an assault outside of a nightclub from a member of the staff. According to witnesses, a male punched a 23-year-old Whistler resident, who fell backwards and hit his head on the concrete, cutting his head.

The RCMP took him to the Whistler Health Care Centre, but he was not cooperative in identifying his attacker or even providing his own information. Police located the suspect on a bench with friends, and arrested the 34-year-old Whistler male for assault and for being intoxicated in a public space. Police also issued a bylaw ticket for creating a public nuisance for fighting.

The RCMP is continuing to investigate.

RCMP seek second victim

During their investigation the RCMP discovered that the same male, a 36-year-old from Mt. Currie might have punched another male earlier in the night, this time inside Moe Joe's nightclub.

The RCMP would like to talk to the male who was punched or any witnesses to the first attack, which would have occurred before midnight on Oct. 3. If you are the victim or have information, contact the RCMP at 604-932-3044 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
