This weekend, June 25 and 26, students from local elementary schools will be going door to door in their neighbourhoods to collect bottles for a good cause – to send two of their schoolmates to a summer camp after their mother died two weeks ago in an ATV accident on the Birken River.
Deanna White, one of the parents helping to organize local fundraisers, said most the energy is coming from the students themselves who wanted to do something for their classmates to help them through a difficult time.
If you didn’t receive a flyer in the last week advising you of pick-up times, you can still make a contribution at the Whistler Bottle Depot by bringing in your bottles and leaving a donation in the jar.
The students are also hosting a fundraising carwash and barbecue on Saturday, July 2 at the municipal hall parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you don’t have a car to clean, organizers are hoping people will come by anyway to get a hotdog and make a contribution.
The fund, called Kids Love Camp, is hoping to raise $1,200 for the children. Any additional funds raised will be used to help send a friend or friends of the children to camp with them.
You can also make a donation to the cause to the Kids Love Camp fund at the North Shore Credit Union, account #3897, Branch 14.
Donation jars will be at the bottle depot for an extended period, as well as other locations around Whistler and Pemberton.
