Whistler’s Rob Boyd was among the athletes who will be inducted into the B.C. Hall of Fame at a ceremony on June 5 at the 35 th annual Banquet of Champions.

Other 2003 inductees include NHL goaltender Andy Moog, basketball player Bev Smith, track star Charmaine Crooks, and rower Kathleen Heddle.

Boyd was a downhill specialist with the Canadian Alpine Ski Team for 12 years. During that time he qualified for the Olympics three times, but was forced to pull out of two of them due to injuries.

In his career he netted six downhill podiums and three World Cup victories, including his win at home in Whistler in 1989. To this day he remains the only male Canadian skier to win a World Cup race on Canadian soil.

"It’s definitely an honour to be nominated," said Boyd, who is currently a coach with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.

"It goes well with the coaching I’m doing right now. Hopefully it will be a good tool that can help me to motivate these racers even more – our goal is to put some of these kids on a podium in 2010."
