An employee at a Function Junction business interrupted a break-and-enter in progress last week, police said.
At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, Whistler RCMP were notified of the incident after an employee working in the back of the building heard glass shatter. After going to the front door, the staff member reportedly saw a man attempting to steal a mini-bike. Spooked, the suspect fled the scene, speeding off in a truck toward Highway 99 with a female passenger.
After alerting neighbouring police jurisdictions, the Squamish RCMP eventually located the suspect's vehicle, which was carrying another male and female as well.
The driver, a 55-year-old Kamloops man, was held for court on charges of break and enter and driving while prohibited, police said.
BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR STOLEN TRUCK
Local police are asking the public to keep their eyes peeled for a truck that was reportedly stolen last week.
The vehicle's owner told police that he had left his 2006 Toyota Tacoma in the parking area for Keith's Hut in Lytton on Oct. 7 only to find it missing, with broken glass on the ground, when he returned the following day.
The truck is blue with a silver canopy, and carries a B.C. license plate with the number KR9342.
Should anyone spot the truck, police are advising not to approach it, but to contact the nearest RCMP or police detachment.
TOOLS REPORTED STOLEN FROM HOTEL STORAGE ROOM
Numerous tools valued at several thousand dollars were allegedly stolen from a storage room at a village hotel last week, police said.
Whistler RMCP were notified of the theft on the morning of Oct. 3 after a padlock was broken on a temporary door to the storage area.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
PORSCHE GOES UP IN FLAMES ON HIGHWAY 99 IN SQUAMISH
A sports car went up in flames in Squamish last week.
On Monday, Oct. 2, RCMP responded to the vehicle fire on Highway 99 at Darrell Bay. The driver told police he was travelling southbound in his 1975 Porsche when he began to smell an odour of fuel inside the vehicle. When the man stopped to check the engine, the hood blew off and the front end of the car "burst into flames," police said.
Although the vehicle was completely destroyed, the driver escaped unharmed.
BREAK-AND-ENTER AT SQUAMISH HOME
Several valuables were stolen during a break-and-enter to a Squamish home last month, reported police.
The incident occurred sometime between Sept. 28 and 29 to a residence in the 1200 block of Main Street, according to RCMP. Police said the suspect got ahold of a garage-door opener left in a family vehicle to gain access to the garage.
Several of the stolen items were later recovered, but a bike is still missing, police said.
