Re: “Questions linger over COS’ handling of tranquilized bear in Whistler

A bear cub in its first year has less than a 30% chance of survival to make it through the winter. Sending the same cub to a rehab center until they are a year and a half of age more than doubles there chances of survival in the wild. A cub of the year was a prime candidate to go to Critter Care. Was the Provincial Veterinarian also a Biologist who specializes in bears? This was a incident with numerous issues. Please try to make the best of a bad situation and catch the cubs so they can go to Critter Care. Chances are these cubs will stay in a residential area and try to continue feeding on attractants through the winter or end up dead.

Re: “Bear dies in fall from tree after being tranquilized by COS

There were so many things done wrong with what happened here. Contacting a Provincial Vet for advice Really. These cubs should have gone to Critter Care for the winter to be rehabbed. They were in the year of there birth so they were prime candidates to go. This stupidity has given these cubs a death sentence. Their chances for survival is less than 30% to make it through the winter.
